Two questions

Fellow Colleagues,
    Once again I come to you for answers, and I thank once again for being so
wonderful.  Here are my two questions:
1.  Where on the Internet can I find what day of the week April 18, 1775,
fell on?
2.  This is kind of a dumb question, but can someone explain what a folklore
is?
I'm reading folklores that are brain teasers and I'm trying to explain what
they are.  I told them that they were stories that were very very old passd
one from one generation to another, trying to teach a moral or lesson.
