TECH: processer types

Dear collegues:  I'd like to know the preferences of those of you who
actually have one concerning the Pentium chip vs. the Celeron chip vs. AMD
or whatever else is out there on the market.  I might add that this computer
I am considering to buy would be used as a stand alone but would access the
internet from a T1 (college dorm). I have spoken to a couple of my tech guys
here at school and the have differing opinions on the matter.  TIA.  Email
me personally.
