r(?). We have a class on women in different cultures (can't remember the correct title of the course), and the teacher has decided that this semester students will be reading either a novel or a memoir of a woman from a different country/culture. So far, this means only cultures outside the US, not minority cultures within the US (e.g, Native American, Hispanic/Latina, immigrants here, etc). I have compiled a list of approx. 25 titles, including adult and YA books, both fiction and non-fiction (see below) but when you peruse the list you will see that many of the books take place in the early 1900's to 1950's. I would like to have some titles that represent women's lives a little closer to the end of the 20th century if possible. Can anyone recommend any titles (novels and memoirs, not short stories)? list so far: AUSTRALIA Conway, Jill Ker. The Road from Coorain. NIGERIA Emecheta, Buchi. The Bride Price. Emecheta, Buchi. Double Yoke. Emecheta, Buchi. Joys of Motherhood. Emecheta, Buchi. Second-class Citizen. MOZAMBIQUE Farmer, Nancy. A Girl Named Disaster. SOUTH AFRICA Naidoo, Beverley. Chain of Fire.
