I received a few replies on this topic. They are as follows: Hi! Here are some ideas for Dr. Seuss' ideas 1. Read aloud sessions of Dr. Seuss' books. 2. Bulletin board displays of his books. 3. Dr. Suess book party - a higlight of his life and works with games, contest and read a loud session 4. Have a Dr. Suess Trivia Contest 5. Invite resource persons to talk about his works. Show them the video of the Lorax and then have them list all the occupations in it, and all the topics in it that could be researched. This is our second year to try something on March 2nd - last year was kind of a bust. So, here's what we are planning this year: -"Chat Across America" - using AOL Instant Messenger, our school and four other school libraries across the country (from Virginia to California) are chatting for three hours about books, reading, authors, and our regions. I'm also using it as an opportunity to talk about online safety and ethics with a couple of classes. Thanks to LMNET, I got great responses from willing folks in the midwest to try this project. -An all day Readathon which will be broadcast from our school broadcast studio. I asked community figures, teachers, students, etc. to sign up for ten minute read aloud slots. Teachers will receive a schedule the week before and make plans to tune in to whatever sounds good to them. -An after-school reading party. 2 hours long, six stations, 20 minutes each station. Stations include: "Family Feud" game with bookish questions "Be a star" (create a book ad in the broadcast studio) pizza "Win Lose or Draw" on a reading theme Reading bingo storyteller We are talking the party up and limiting attendance to 75, in the hopes that that will make it sound very enticing!
