A friend of my son is looking for the title of a book she read as a child possibly in the 60's or 70's. Who else would I come to to ask for help? She describes it as a story of a pair or a trio of young animlals who run away from a bad situtation. They are rabbits or some of them are. They take a boat down a river through a forest where they live and gradually become lost. They leave the boat on the opposite bank and start walking through the forest. Everythng becomes misty and strange. The light is peculiar. It's hushed; they meet no other animals and a sense of displacement grows. Finally they halt and one of them says " We are not meant to be here yet. It is too soon." They have accidentally crossed over into the land of the dead. They make their way back and return to the other side of the river and home. If someone out there recognizes the book from this description, please let me know. I haven't a clue. Thanks.
