To all who wanted a HIT on the periodical jobbers, here are
the responses. I guess it's a roll of the dice. Some
people have good experiences, others bad. =20
----------------------------------------
I have used Alini for about three years now. We are
ecstatically happy=20
with them. In the past we used EBSCO and Turner and had
YEARS of problems=20
with missing issues, delayed start ups, high prices and
claim forms that took=20
hours to fill out.
At Alini, if you call with a problem (we've only had 2
that I remember!)=20
they know you by name and call on a regular basis to check
on things. Who=20
else does that? The prices are great and I recommend them
wholeheartedly.
------------------------------------------
I have used Discount Magazine Subscription Service for 8
years and
have been very happy. We very rarely have a problem! They
do not have
an internet site but they do have email if you need to
contact them.-
-------------------------------------------
I have been using Subscription Services of America for about
8 years and
have been very happy with them. Their prices are very good.
--------------------------------------------------
My personal experience with Alini was very very poor. The
first year
wasn't too bad (I suppose in order to get the business), but
the second
year was a nightmare.. I've never used the others. =20
---------------------------------------------
I used Discount Magazine Subscription (DMS) Services and was
pleased
with saving a substantial amount of money with the service
(as compared
with Ebsco, which I also continued to use...). They require
that you
subscribe using the name of a person (rather than a school),
and I had
worries about the service, since it seemed to be a less
corporate entity
than Ebsco. But their service was fine and I have absolutely
no
complaints. At two different schools, I switched about half
of my
subscriptions to DMS; I subscribed to approximately 65
magazines from
them. If you compare the prices between DMS and other
vendors, I found
some prices the same, but substantial savings on others.
-------------------------------------
- I have been using Discount Magazine Subscriptions for 4
years
for a $600+ order and am happy with their service. I have
cancelled
subscriptions mid-year, and they handeled them in a timely
manner.
---------------------------------
I used Discount last year, and decided that we could do A
LOT better
ourselves. I don't use any jobbers for periodicals. Instead,
I buy directly
from the publishers. This saves us 30-40%.
---------------------------------
I use Discount Magazine Subscriptions for some of my
magazines; have never
had a problem with them. I reccommend the company.
