Thank you to everyone that took the time out of their busy schedules to
respond to my post. You are truly an amazing group! Your efforts, on
behalf of the students and staffs that you serve, are very inspiring.
Here is a brief summary of answers followed by some comments.

1. Are you compensated? Yes: Time? 5, Money? 4(1-$300, 1-$400), Other?
3; No:209
"I do it on my own time." 187
"I mostly work on them on school time." 6
"I created the web page, publish it, and maintain it myself." Changes:
daily-52, weekly-27, monthly-40
"I have some students that help with the page." Responsibility: Full-4,
Partial-9

2. Do you have publishing privileges? 143 (17 their directory only)
Or, do you have to go through a web master? 77
"This was just assigned to the district Media people since it was felt
that it was a 'natural fit' with our roles." Web masters:
District-86, Building-4
1
3. Do you use a form for parents to grant permission to have their
child's picture, work, etc. published on the web page? Yes:138; No:59
Using student photos: Group only-49, Side view-38, front view-3
        Using student names: None-62, First names-49, Initials-21

4. If the form is separate from the AUP, how do you keep track of it?
        LMC--67
        main office--32
        classrooms--14

Why we do it:
"Maintaining web pages, even ones as simple as ours, takes a tremendous
amount of time, but it is well worth it when I know it really serves
someone's needs."

"I have decided to create a web page for the same reason as yours--to
better serve my students."

"I think you have to be a little crazy, or at least a workaholic to do
this!"
        (Crazy-14, Obsessed-17, Workaholic-22)

"I'd say, if you're tapped to be the Web master, which is really a
full-time job for a district person, you could ask for at least some
time off!"

"Once I was in the lab when a 3rd grade teacher was having students type
in a long web address. Naturally, the kids were having a hard time. I
brought up one of my pages, added the link, and posted it in less than
five minutes, and the rest of the class just had to click the link.
[This helped sell the teacher on telling me what she needed ahead of
time.]"

Problems:
"I don't think they have a clue how much time it takes to do a really
good page!"

"My biggest problem it trying to get the teachers' to give me their
contributions to the pages."

"We don't have a disclaimer, so I can only link to the most basic of
sites."

"Out school is paranoid about publishing kids photos, so I have to
screen every shot for every single page!"

"Keeping the site updated is really difficult, unless I let something
else slide."

""My BIGGEST problem is that I DO NOT get ANY time on the job to work on
it....I do almost EVERYTHING when I get home at night....which results
in very little sleep!"
