Approximately 7 years ago, our school district stratified our elementary schools into a K-2 building, and a 3-5 building. At that time, the media center collections were divided up, although both collections did retain some materials for the other grade levels. We are interested in knowing how other schools have handled such a situation? Did both libraries keep some materials for all grade levels, or were the collections completely split? The media coordinators in those two buildings don't see much use of the collections that are not their primary grade levels, and are wondering if we should go ahead and finish splitting the collections. If your library did retain all grade levels, how do you encourage use of the materials that may really be intended for older or younger students, but would still be useful to your students? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
