Dear Netters, You people are great and thanks to all your good ideas, the 5th grade and I pulled off a very good experience. I used the National Georpgrahic's web site "Journey" to re-enact it in the library. No lights on and only a flashlight...I wrote a script and added characters (Harriet Tubman, William Still etc) with lines to say. I made Narrator cards for each of the 10 "web pages" and stationed them at critical points on the railroad to help the slaves escape; Peg Leg Joe started them on their way by leading us in singing the Drinking Gourd Song..I too acted as narrator by adding in information about the Fugitive Slave Act when they made it to the North. Using cut paper as a river, lining up small tables to crawl under, throwing quilts over "houses" and setting up lanterns...they went through the Choptank River, to safe houses, across Lake Erie to Canada... It lasted about 30 minutes and we filmed it with our digital camera, so hopefull you can see some pictures on our web site at some point. Again, Thank you so much Tina Hudak Takoma Park Maryland Public Library =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
