Two questions:

Are you networked?

What version of AR are you using? PC or Mac?

You should be able to import the fifth graders scores next year into your new
file and they will automatically combine if the names have been entered
identically or you could just graduate those fifth graders and then add the
names of those sixth graders who hadn't tested last year. Then let AR do the
job--it won't allow students to retake tests.

I asked our lead AR teacher about your question and she said it's really =
easy. You don't even have to be networked. You just have to import =
student records at the beginning of each school year. (You copy them to a =
disk and give the disk to the new grade teacher.) Our kids use AR from =
elementary through high school and can't ever get away with taking the =
same test twice. =20
Happy reading!

Karen, you can choose to leave all test records on a child's record when
you advance them to the next grade in AR. They actually stay there unless
you choose to delete them.

Absolutely!! The fifth grade students would be "graduated" from 5th to 6th
at the end of the year, and the record would be entered automatically in the
6th grade computer. I am assuming that these are non-networked computers,
so someone would have to export/import the records for individual teachers.
It works well. Our Intermediate school and the two feeder elementary
schools send me their "graduated" students records via diskette each spring,
and they are then put on our network.

Good luck with the project!

I use AR for K-5. You can set up the program to not let a student repeat a
test. That means if they do not pass or have already taken it , the computer
tells them that they cannot take the test again.

Are you using AR on a network, or stand alone? On the network it's no
problem. All students are in a single file, and are just advanced a grade
and reassigned to a different teacher at the beginning of the year. We
have students now in high school and have the records of their tests back
to gr. 5. You can also export and import students when they move to a
different school or building.
