Then the sixth grade teacher will have a full record of tests taken in 5th grade. If you are using stand alone computers, you would have to export data to a disk (from 5th grade computers ) and upload it to the 6th grade computers. Either way, it isn't hard. I assume your computers are not networked. If you have a network, the names and data just remain in the system from one year to the next. If you are *not* networked and students are working on stand-alone computers where AR is loaded, you would just need to export all the student data at the end of grade 5, and then import it into your machines for grade 6.... The data will all be there and the students won't be able to re-test on a book they've already tested on..... Hope this helps.... If you are using stand alone computers you just export the student records to a disk then import them into another computer. So your sixth graders will not be able to retest on the same test next year. The manual tells you how to do it. We are a small K-8 school in Kansas and use AR with First through eighth grades. We do not move the first grade records so they can retest on all the books again in second grade. We feel they need all the practice they can get. We've had great success with Accelerated Reader. I've taught for many years and have experienced many education ideas that have come and gone, but AR is by far the best idea I've seen in a long time. If I can help in anyway, please let me know. The past years are still in the computer so that the students cannot repeat the same tests, but their points, reading level, percentage correct and all are only shown for the current year. I've only done the setup once so my mind is fuzzy on the exact steps to take, but email me if you still need help and I'll check and see exactly what to click on and everything. There is a way to set the preferences so that once a student has taken a test he is prevented from taking it again regardless of grade level. We even imported the student records from the elementary school at the beginning of the year so those students could not take tests at the middle school they had previously taken. Now I will admit while I know this happens, I do not know the specifics because someone else handles the technical end of our program. I would just call tech support and have them walk you through what you are wanting to do. The AR database keeps track of ANY tests taken by ANY student regardless of their grade or how many years they have been testing with you. For instance, we have 8th graders here who started with AR in 6th and the program maintains the records of all their tests from the first one they took. If they try to read the same book again and test on it, the software will refuse them the test, even if they took it two years ago. When our fifth graders transfer schools to middle school, we will import their records from the other school, so that when they get here, they will not be able to test on anything they tested on in fifth. Unless you go in and deliberately delete a test, that test stays on their record until you delete the student from the database.
