YALSA ANNOUNCES THE FIFTH BEST OF THE BEST BOOKS PRECONFERENCE

The fifth YALSA Best of the Best preconference, which will select the Best =
Books for Young Adults from the 20th century for teen readers of the 21st =
century, will be held Friday, July 7, 8:30 am to 5:30 am, at the Hyatt =
Regency Chicago during the 2000 Annual Conference, July 6-12.=20

The luncheon speaker is author William Sleator, who has had seven books =
selected as Best Books for Young Adults.  Two of his books, House of =
Stairs and Interstellar Pig, have been selected for Best of the Best =
lists.

Participants at "Best of the Best Revisited: BoJo Jones and Beyond" will =
experience the magic of passionate discussion about books with well-read =
colleagues throughout the day and will vote on their ten Best of the Best =
books from selected years.  At the final session, the winners from each =
group will be announced.

After registering, participants will be assigned specific annual lists to =
discuss and will also receive a copy of Best Books for Young Adults, =
Second Edition, by Betty Carter that can be used as a textbook for the =
preconference. =20

After the preconference, participants are invited to attend the Michael L. =
Printz Award Reception, 6-7:30 pm, and the Booklist Books for Youth Forum, =
"The Michael L. Printz Award, The Winners and Issues.", 8-10pm, also at =
the Hyatt Regency Chicago.
