The essential questions came from a philosphy of education embraced the the Coalition of Essential Schools http://www.essentialschools.org/ and Dr. Ted Sizer, formerly of Brown University and I believe is now at Penn State. The following are two sites that contain information about Dr. Sizer and his educational reform philosophies: http://www.edc.org/FSC/ATLAS/interview/sizer.html (This is a recent interview with him and his current activities.) and http://www.ed.psu.edu/insys/ESD/ESD.html I hope this helps.
