I am pleading for the assistance of all librarians, teachers, and administrators who read this to petition the legislature to add rules allowing for a professional librarian (teacher-librarian) (media specialist) in each educational facility. Let's get us removed from the unit count. Rumors are beginning of school districts de-valuing the role of the library and the librarian. To save a unit they are running more and more libraries under the direction of an untrained aide. With the educational and technological changes and standards we are now surrounded by, it's time for the importance of a professional to be noted. Please write to your legislators (as we've tried in the past) and ask them to remove librarian positions from the unit count and allow one professional per facility!
