Dear LMNETTERS: Sorry about the lapsus. The lecture or workshop is going to be in late february 2000. I imagine that the big theme involved made me make this lapsus. Anyway, all the help I can get is much welcome. Original message.... I have to do a lecture or workshop on the importance of the school library today. I know that the theme is very big but let me inform you on some details about this school librarise in Peru: This is Lima, Peru. The audience will be public education teachers. There is a a sort of educational reform going on. I say sort of because this has not been a planned reform but one that has been constructed on the way. Teachers and directors are supposed to be the principal engines in this reform. Teachers are overworked (some have two work schedules) Teachers have 40 or more students per class. Teachers are underpayed. School librarians are not teachers (general state in Peru). They are paid like administrative personnel (lower than teacher wages). Generally they have not received any training in library work. I do know the main requirements these teachers need. I have been doing research in school libraries in Peru for some years now. What I want you to help me with is a general idea, or metaphor to work with. Something that will interest them. The idea behind this might be that even if teachers are oveburdened with work, to think, plan and work with the library in mind in their year and daily chores will be rewarding for them and for their students. In that sense it is important for them to collaborate with the library and the librarian in charge. Any idea(s) will be much welcome. TIA in advance.... ************************************************************ Gustavo von Bischoffshausen gustavo@tarea.org.pe Servicios de Informacion Tarea, Asociacion de Publicaciones Educativas Lima, PERU PC/WINDOWS95, Netscape Communicator, Pegasus Mail para Windows EL ROL DE LOS LECTORES ES HACER VISIBLE AQUELLO QUE LA ESCRITURA SUGIERE MEDIANTE INDICIOS Y SOMBRAS ibn al-Haytham (m. 1038 DC) ************************************************************ Gustavo von Bischoffshausen gustavo@tarea.org.pe Servicios de Informacion Tarea, Asociacion de Publicaciones Educativas Lima, PERU PC/WINDOWS95, Netscape Communicator, Pegasus Mail para Windows EL ROL DE LOS LECTORES ES HACER VISIBLE AQUELLO QUE LA ESCRITURA SUGIERE MEDIANTE INDICIOS Y SOMBRAS ibn al-Haytham (m. 1038 DC) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
