Hi all! This request is difficult to explain. Please bear with me. My 5th grade teacher is looking for books to use with the summer enrichment program. She's going to use American Girl books with the girls and is wondering if there is something similar for boys (NOT the Dear America/My name is America books). She'll be working with grades 3-6. The idea (if I understand correctly) is that they'll be doing activities related to the books. She wants to avoid the colonial period (if possible) due to a reenactment that takes place during the course of the school year. Huck Finn is too advanced for the group. Hatchet is an obvious choice except for the plane crash component. I guess she wants books with an outdoor component that are realistic in a day camp setting. We have a pond and woods on our campus... Does this make sense? If you have any suggestions (besides Hatchet and others by Paulsen), please let me know! Thanks!
