Hi. My new principal wants me to decide ASAP how I plan to spend our book fair proceeds and has suggested that I start by making sure we have the complete collection of Caldecott winners. We are a small school, about 150 K-2 kids, about 4200 titles in the MC. My question is, considering resources are _finite_, why should I purchase many of the oldest Caldecott winners when, even though I understand their value as _L_iterature, their four-color artwork and content don't hold my students' attention? Is this horrible, unforgivable blasphemy on my part? My students are passionate about non-fiction and I often have to send them off empty-handed when they want pet books and space books and craft books and sports books and dinosaur books. So, if you happen to know any excellent resources for primary-level non-fiction, pass that info along, too. My inclination is to spend the money there. Bad? Thanks!
