Hi, all! A couple of responses to my recent, "Half-Way Day" posting (see below) made a good point that I felt needs to be shared. It does need to be emphasized that here are other educational options beyond high school. (Our school IS making a major push to encourage our students to consider college an option. That same week in the library media center we had eighth graders doing a major career research projects. As part of the preparation for the project, the collaborating teacher talked with the students about how income and education impact lifestyle. They looked at some very realistic income and expense figures and then did some budgeting. Earlier in the year we had a career fair day. We invited groups to set up booths in the gym to share information about a variety of careers. The local technical college & university branch were there too. Our 8th graders tour both campuses each fall.) For some schools, keeping students in school also requires some efforts. Knowing that they are more than halfway there might be encouraging to some students to finish their high school education. Deb > Tha't a very cute idea and should be fun.
