TECH:scanners

I'm in the market for a scanner.   Does anyone know what the difference is
between a 30 BIT and a 36 BIT scanner?  Does it make any significant
difference?

Also to those folks who are lauding the SONY Mavica -- it would be helpful
to know which model of the camera you use (there are several.)
