An English teacher will be teaching a one-semester class entitled "20th Century Novel" and would like suggestions on good modern novels. I suggested that, looking at the past curriculum content, she may want to branch out and do more multi-cultural literature. On the list now are things like Cuckoo's Nest, Catch-22 and dead white men writers. I thought of people like Toni Morrison, Barbara Kingsolver, Amy Tan; a choice of Latin-American (Allende, Garcia-Marquez, Esquivel). In addition to reading specific novels, she is going to have them do independent research on an author and his/her works. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Authors, titles, reasons why - anything. TIA. I'll post a hit if I get a good response. J’aime L. Foust, Librarian Queensbury High School 409 Aviation Rd.
