Betty, for some reason, the messages come back that Yahoo does not
recognize you...
Here are my suggestions:
You did not mention age, or if this is a one time lesson or several
lessons...So:
#1-Make sure they know how to use guide words.
#2-Teach them a quick searching skill:
i.e. is word in first part of alpahabet or last?
So, try to open dictionary in part of book that MIGHT be near where
word is located...(Assuming you don't have the tab dictionaries).
Have a few races to find a particular word.
#3. Talk about different pronunciations and how to determine which is
most acceptable use.
#4 Show them the pages in either front or back that give uses in English
language.--grammer pages
#5 Show them pronuncing gazeteer.
#6 Show them the geographical index....and any others this particular
dictinary might have.
#7 Dictionary vs thearsus
#8 We have a rhyming dictionary
#9 Difference between unabridged dictionary and one we usually use.

.......This should get you started!
