Have been looking for the same thing to no avail.  However I did do some work
on my own, and let's see from memory I have these names:
Faith Ringgold
The Pinkneys
Virginia Hamilton
Ezra Jack Keats is NOT African American!
There is a wonderful author (not American) but from African who has written A
is for Africa and Emeko's Gift...I plan on using those two with K next week
Deborah Hopkinson (I think she is African American...can't find her photo!)

The Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English will
sponsor a nation-wide Read-In on the tthe first Sunday of February
(February 6th) at 4:00 p.m. EST.  The following Monday (February 7th) is
designated for educational institutions.  This is meant to be a part of
Black History Month celebrations.  The Read-In may involve simply
gathering as a family or classroom or share books, or as elaborate as
arranging large audiences to hear professional writers and readers.
