Dear LM_Netters,

Thank you all for sharing your pathfinders; they are a wonderful tool.
I have done something similar, but not as formalized.  This discussion
really helped me be more concrete with what I wanted to do.

One caution - I always make sure I have gone through the process of
finding the materials with the students.  They need to know how to get
started on a research project without having the materials already
identified or pulled for them.  At my level, grades 4-6, I do this with
materials in our library and also with online databases.  Using the WWW
is quite a bit more difficult, so I model some searching for them, but
often don't expect them to find as much on their own.  Then when they
have helped me identify the materials, I pull them on reserve shelves or
make a guide like a Pathfinder.  This is important for shaping
independent learners.
