Heather, it's not really the question that is asked in many cases,
but the way that it is asked.

"Tell me everything about running a library" is darned near
impossible.

"I've checked the archives on topic x and while I've gotten some
good leads, I still am unclear about how to handle this part of  x" is
a terrific request. This starts the creative juices flowing and should
produce either an outpouring of information or the response "you
know, it's got me stumped too".

As for the questions being covered in your classes, there is a large
gap between a classroom discussion and being able to apply the
techniques when you're on the run. (but now that you're warned,
you may be able to avoid that brick wall for awhile).

(as for the ala/non ala degree and paraprofessionals running the
library... there are quite a few discussions in the archives)
