I could not resist sharing this --
While at ALA in Chicago I took a few minutes to visit the Evelyn & Crabtree
shop in the Watertower to search for "Beatrix Potter" stuff for a themed
nursery (for a new grandbaby expected in October). I had already
purchased, previously, a small tin wash basin with Beatrix Potter
characters all around and some other things they had. I guess I had said
"Beatrix Potter" a couple three times in the conversation when the young
sales clerk said -- "Oh, you know there's a new Potter book out." I'm
thinking in my head -- she's been dead for several years so did they
discover a new manuscript or is it a new edition of just what. So I asked
"Where did you hear that, or do you know the title?" She said, "Oh, it's
all over the news -- everyone is lining up to get it."
"Oh" I said, "You mean 'Harry Potter'."
She really hadn't had a clue. Guess Rowling isn't bringing everyone into
the literacy fold. ;>)
