Today, at my favorite fast food spot for a morning pick-me-up with conversation, another regular was sitting in the "bible-toter's" spot (read previous post)--he happens to be the about to retire minister at a nearby Methodist Church. When I spied him I asked jokingly where was he yesterday when I needed him--and before asking me why I needed him he volunteered that he had purchased all the Potter books based on my previous enthusiasm for them. He is a former English teacher and as we filled him in on the anti-Potter attack, he explained that he was of the opinion that it was his and others intellectual responsibility to read what is controversial in order to form an independent opinion. God bless him. Reason and religioun. On another note I can hardly believe how many students I am running in to who have finished Potter IV already (most in one day). Too bad they didn't slow down and enjoy the "scenery" along the way. I am enjoying a nice slow meander through Potter IV while swaying slowly in my hammock under my shade trees.
