Hello LM Netters, I am about half-way through Harry Potter IV, and I agree with the group member who said that this book seems to be geared more toward a middle school audience. That's probably a result of Harry getting older, but, personally, I'm delighted with the change. I never felt that this was a book for primary grade children although I didn't in any way restrict its circulation. There are plenty of great books for the primary grades, but it's a lot tougher to motivate middle school (and high) schoolers to read. I wouldn't want to think that the older kids would be turned off because they saw 2nd graders carrying the book around. As far as the stereotyping is concerned, I will never understand why people feel the need to "analyze" children's books. I have always loved reading for reading's sake. I can't ever remember reading a children's book that made me feel like a second class citizen because of my gender.
