I heartily agree with Joni on this it is not about food and drink in the
library it is about making the library Media center a place where students
want to be. As a matter of fact the only time I saw food and drink in the
LMC that brought me to go to library school was at evening PTO meetings.
However, both of my children found reasons to spend their lunch periods in
the high school library. For the oldest, it was the three computer labs
where he learned to program and do a large variety of multi-media projects
including designing his first computer game. For the younger one it was a
place to find books to read. The both sent a large amount of time in the
library, especially, choosing to spend their "lunch" time without food. My
kids were not alone in doing this. I enjoyed substituting there so much
that I regained a career goal that I had set aside two decades earlier. I
am trying to make my LMC into that kind of place.
