Help with book title

Hi all,

This book description has me stumped.  I've tried our regional library
catalogs, Amazon and LC to no avail.

The requester is a 6th grade girl who remembers reading a book about a
boy whose grandmother dies.  A red cardinal comes around and the
grandfather tells the boy that it is the grandmother's spirit.  Any
ideas?
