Dear colleagues, My principal and I have decided that next year we will allow the students (rather than the teachers) to check out one dictionary and one novel from a class set. Then if a copy was lost, we would know which student had used it. I am getting tired of the "I'm not paying for that book, a student lost it" complaint. (Actually, they can complain all they want. I don't sign their check-out sheet until all items are handed in. If the check-out sheet isn't signed, they don't get their paycheck.) At our school, items that a student checks out are due the following week since I usually see them once a week. However, I know that dictionary and classroom novels take more than a week to finish. How long would recommend having these items checked out? Thank you.
