If you are the librarian in a SUCCESS FOR ALL school and are teaching
reading, I would appreciate your insights.
We are finishing our first year as a SFA school. This year I served on the
Family Support Team, along with the guidance counselor, PE teacher, SFA
facilitator, and principal. We felt that the FST component was being
developed well and would be a strong support for the program next year.
Teachers feel that it would be better to have us teaching reading groups so
that classes can be smaller. Evidently family support meetings will have to
be held after school by someone.
Will you share your insights and tell me a bit about how you have handled
being part-time librarian and part-time reading teacher? Do you feel that
the media program has suffered?
Are you trained and certified to teach reading? I have absolutely no
training in teaching reading. I have a grand total of 4 "education" courses.
I took 2 as an undergraduate and quickly decided that I did NOT want to be a
teacher. I took 2 more years later in order to get certification to be a
school librarian in Florida.
I must admit that I am very disturbed that I can evidently be foisted onto
innocent children and unsuspecting parents as a reading teacher. I LOVE
being a librarian, and enjoy teaching and enriching and story telling and
guiding in that context.

Thanks for any suggestions you can offer,
