LM_NET: Library Media Networking
LeavesHello, everyone (or whoever's left) -- My 8th grade reading teachers
asked me late spring to pull together a bibliography of materials
appropriate for their students. We've had a problem with many of our 13-
and 14-year-olds who are not reading or, if forced to check out materials,
are checking out very age-inappropriate (i.e., Hank the Cowdog, etc.). So,
they've asked for a list. I'm putting one together with the materials that
we have in our library -- hopefully, sorted by genre and containing a bit of
a synopsis for the kids -- and was wondering what you folks have as
particular favorites for your kids.
Once my list is created, I'll be happy to e-mail it as an attachment for
those requesting. This is one project I'm working on over the summer.
And, thank you to all who posted replies to me about teachers in the
library. The situation hasn't changed; I've decided, based on some good
advice and some deep soul-searching, that if I do stay, I am going to make
sure that duties are outlined, that I consistently complain when the hour is
treated as another prep, and let the teachers file a grievance. Several
have indicated their willingness to work; the rest can force the issue, I
guess. Thanks again for the replies -- I haven't decided about staying --
that decision is kind of heart-rending, as I'm sure you all know -- we love
our work and know how important it quietly is.
