Friends,
Thanks to an LM_NET colleague and folks at the Justice Policy
Institute website, I have located the new "Zero Tolerance" policy report
"School House Hype," along with several others on the topic. For those who
expressed interest, the JPI website can be found at www.cjcj.org, and a
search on that site under the keywords "Zero Tolerance" (as you no doubt
guessed!) brings up an abundance of articles and reports.
For the layperson, an article included from an 11/21/99 issue of
the "Chicago Tribune" should be most interesting reading. Written by
William Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn, it is entitled "Have We Gone Overboard
with Zero Tolerance."
Here's hoping the Justice Policy Institute's collection of
considered analyses finds an appropriately motivated and concerned
audience.
        Take care.

*****
When one has the option and ability to show kindness and mercy, and
to give grace, yet fails to do so, while invoking and/or hiding behind some
loveless policy, one reveals oneself as coward, at best, and abusive bully
at worst.
        For shame.
Can we not think of the children, please?
