VA only: SOLINET databases trial/purchase plans

Hello Virginia LM_Netters,

    Some of you may remember that SOLINET offered us a trial of several
databases back in January - March.  Following that trial we received letters
informing us of the "confidential" prices available thru SOLINET for various
options in which that they felt we had expressed the most interest.  That
letter also mentioned that some grants were available for schools and
libraries.  The decisions have now apparently been made on those grants, and
the group that my school system is part of did not receive any grant money.
So now we are left pretty much to ourselves to see what kind a deal we can
get.  I am curious how many other schools, especially middle schools, have
contacted SOLINET about purchasing one or more of the products, and also if
any of you have found that they could get a better price going directly to
the vendors.  The SOLINET contact person is out of his office now, but I
will be trying to contact him later this week.  I will be attending ALA and
would like to have as much information as possible before I talk to vendors
there.
