Suby Wallace, Librarian/Media Specialist >> Hi Suby, I called Melissa Nolan, instead of going to the site. Her number is 800-779-3339 and her extension is 5312. She called me back and asked for my address. From talking with her it seems that any LMS that is interested in being part of the pilot can be. Anyone else who contacts her, let me know if I'm right about this point....I don't want to pass on any incorrect information here, but I'm almost 100% positive that is what she said. She will ask for your address and we should receive the information about the pilot later (I can't remember exactly when!). She did say that those involved in the pilot would be videotaping a lesson in the spring of the 2000-2001 school year and would be sending in some type of critique of that portion of the process that they are piloting. In other words, you won't be piloting the whole process. She then said that the National Board Certification for Library Media Specialists should begin during the 2001-2002 school year. Those who want to go for certification would receive their portfolio information in December of 2001 and would begin the process in February of 2002. The process would end with a computerized test (I believe I'm right here) in June of 2002. That's all I can remember from our conversation. I'm trying to keep the names and addresses of other LMSs who are interested in possibly forming an e-mail loop later to support each other when we do go for the certification. Let me know if you're interested and I'll add your name to the list. I'd be glad for someone else to head up the e-mail loop if they wish.....if not, I'd be glad to do it myself. :) Hope this info helps some of you.
