I found a neat use for one of the posters I picked up at AASL from Blackbirch Press. It is a Timeline of the Holocaust. When I do booktalks for that unit in grade 6 or 8, I place little stickers with the titles of the books I am talking about on the timeline. For example: The Devil in Vienna goes on 1938, Man From the Other Side goes on 1942. Non-fiction titles and biographies I also try to place, then I give the poster to the teacher to hang in the classroom for a week or so while students are reading their books. This helps students place historical fiction into real world events. Karen Perry A.J.
