A Thousand Apologies, This is very late, but I've got a good excuse... I received very little in this search, but the few I have are below. Thanks PS The other question I asked on Library Home Pages was lost (along with a few responses here, too) in a computer crash. ***************************************************** I do a brief intro in second grade. The lesson includes: --becoming familiar with the titles we have --comparing magazines with books --learning how to check out magazines I put a selection of about 6 or 7 primary titles on each table (3 or 4 kids at a table). They take turns looking through each magazine or can do it as a group if they are quiet enough. They each share something from a magazine that they found interesting. I follow up with a brief description of the coverage of each magazine, usually pointing out examples that the kids mentioned. I then show them how to check out magazines (we use plastic covers and temporary barcodes). They are usually very interested the first couple of weeks but then lose interest as the weeks go by. I review with a scavenger hunt in third grade where they must find specific items in the magazines on their tables. This is just to remind them of the great things magazines have to offer. I also review check out procedures. ---------- 3RD GRADE MAGAZINE SEARCH NAME _______________________ CLASS ___________ NAME OF MAGAZINE _____________________________________________________________ DATE OF MAGAZINE ____________________________ 1. I often use Linda Turrell's the Complete Library Skills (k-6) as supplements and photocopy some lessons straight from the books. They are avail. from Demco and costs about $60 for all 5(?), and well worth it. There are some basic lesson for mags for 3-6 grades. *************************************************** Thomas David Rompf Head of Information Services Colegio Bolivar Apartado Aereo 26300 Cali, Valle, Colombia South America HOME:+57-2-330-2381 WORK:+57-2-555-2039 FAX:+57-2-555-2041 / USFax (810) 277-0487 CELLULAR:+57-003-560-0064 EMAIL: tomrompf@norma.net / tomrompf@hotmail.com School Page: www.colegiobolivar.edu.co *************************************************** =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
