This series is much better than anything else by Pike. I used them very =
successfully for booktalks in the midgrades. They were #2 in poplularity =
after Chinese Handcuffs and before Weetzie Bat with 6-9 graders in Queens. =
It has a great hook, a 3000 year old vampire goes to highschool and a =
fabulous passage to read, in Book 2 where she threatens the private =
investigator. Essentially you have a girl superhero, with good morals, =
who winds up saving the world at least 3 times. Everything from ancient =
religions to martial arts. A bit more bloodshed than we might like, but =
nothing like a Segal film.

The opinions expressed are my own!

"You have to be cynical, you have to question things. You can't take =
someone named Belle LaBelle on face value. What's her angle, huh? Who's =
payroll is she on? You find out the answers to those things, and then you =
start movin' fast and crooked. You go through doorways sideways and low, =
at odd angles. You look for the big lie, question everything." Jim =

A student has asked if I would purchase the Pike Vampire books. I tend
not to buy Pike, but that could just be (okay, IS ;-) ) a personal bias.
What do you think of this series for a middle school library?

TIA
