HIT: Digital Video Cameras

I had lots of helpful responses to my query on digital video cameras.
Here's the scoop:
1.  Suggested by a person who attended a seminar on this subject: Canon XLI
($4000 - good external mike) with DV tape format and compatible editing
system, like Adobe Premier and FinalCut.  Also Sony digital 8 that plugs
directly into firewire port.
2.Sony Digital Handycam- a digital 8 film camera...$900.Easy to use, does
special effects, etc.  Recommended Avid editing software for its easy use.
Premier software good too, just a little trickier.
3.  Sony and Canon make minidv cameras...range from $600 to $4000.  Picture
quality increases with price.  Works with firewires for editing.
4.  JVC (GR-DVF31) about $900
5.  Canon GL1 ($2400)
6.  Finally, I looked at 2 myself...Canon Ultura, $999 and the Canon Elura
$1499.  This one has progressive scan CCD, good for fast moving subjects,
better video. Good in low light.
Some of my respondents have been reading up on this subject, so there is
literature on there.
