These are novels that have worked well over the years. The first 3 listed are also on the lists of American novels that college professors take for granted as being read in high school. _______ Huckleberry Finn, Scarlet Letter, O Pioneers, To Kill A Mockingbird, Light in the Forest, can't remember the others. ________ Books we use in Jr. English include: The Jungle, Raisin in the Sun, Alas Babylon, Huckleberry Finn, The Crucible, The Pearl, Flowers for Algernon and Grapes of Wrath. We also use short stories and poems from anthologies and other sources. ________ juniors read The Crucible, Our Town, Spoon River Anthology, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Of Mice and Men, and The Great Gatsby. College bound track also read The Scarlet Letter and Red Badge of Courage. Lower level students read Running Loose by Chris Crutcher. Honors kids read several plays by Eugene O'Neill and Tennessee Williams.
