There's a great site -- Letters from an Iowa Soldier available from Kathy
Schrock's site. Can't remember the URL but go to my home page
http://www.mcelmeel.com -- click on the curriculum connections; then www in
the classroom; then the link to Schrock's page. Once on Schrock's Guide
for Educators find the US History link.

The Library of Congress American Memories site has good primary
sources and adds new things frequently. Just do a search for "civil
war soldier" and see if some diaries come up:
        http://lcweb2.loc.gov/ammem/mdbquery.html
(I have this link on our library's home page because it is used by our
AP Advanced American History class)

Dear Lois,

My favorite site created by B. D. Boyle seems to have vanished.

Here are some other possiblilities:

American civil War homepage
http://sunsite.utk.edu/civil-war/

Documenting the American South
http://metalab.unc.edu/docsouth/neh/texts.html#T

Civil War Manuscripts
http://www.unc.edu/lib/mssinv/exhibits/civilwar/civilwar.html#contents

Eyewitness History

Teaching the Civil War

Here is a site, whilst not matching your request precisely, you and your
teacher may find useful. It is part of the Library of Congress American
Memories project. It was put together by a media specialist and a classroom
teacher. The resources accessible through this page are all primary
resources from the LOC (actual scans of the original photographs, documents,
sounds, etc.). Part of the project is to make lesson plans. Your SS teacher
may find it quite valuable and informative. The picture of the child of the
left of the opening page, btw, is of a soldier!
