Hi, Folks. I received a few suggestions on what to provide in a state of the library type report for the powers that be. A couple were duplicates, so I have cut and pasted the others. Thanks to all. BTW, one of the questions I received was about Follett and their collection analysis report. I received it the other day and am willing to send a copy as an ATTACHMENT to any one who would like to get an idea of what they do. If there are too many requests, I will do a cut and paste from Excel into another email. Thanks again for the help. Lori K Joffe Bensalem High School Library Bensalem, PA lkjof@icdc.com Hi - Are collecting statistics about how many services you as a librarian provide to your patrons? i.e. students, teachers, and other administrators? How many lesson plans prepared, what types, how many hours, how many phone calls? How many students take books out? what types of books? How many services and how much time does it take you to perform each function. Keep a record of your time spent for a week. It will amaze you. Are you keeping a record of questions asked? and How many requests you can answer or fulfill and how many you are unable to fulfill and why you can't fulfill the request? This will help you. Good luck!! I'm about two weeks behind in my LM-NET reading, but I thought I would let you know a couple of things I did. The first thing I did was run a collection by age analysis off of our Follett system. The principal was surprised when I showed him the age of some of the books.. I did this by all categories -- Dewey, Fiction, A/V, etc. It made him aware of things no one had bothered to tell him previously. The second thing I did was put together a report on the number of students we served during the fall semester, and then in January. I will do a report each month for the remainder of the school year. You can tell a person you are really busy, but basically, that means nothing. If you can put figures in front of that person it makes a difference. My report showed him that we served 14,500 students in the fall for research purposes and had around 650 classes in for research. He was totally unaware of the volume of students that we see. In graduate school they really emphasized keeping in touch with your principal. I thought by giving him some facts and figures once a month he could be a little more aware of what goes on. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= All postings to LM_NET are protected under copyright law.
