All: Carl makes some very pertinent points. I, too, think the demise of the book is being heralded a bit prematurely. I should like to add three other somewhat minor points. Part of the pleasure of reading a book is being able to take one's time at it. The incessent haste we seem to bring to all things digital works against this. Another aspect is the tactile pleasure of holding a well-bound book. I derive little sensory pleasure from holding a Palm Pilot or touching a mouse. Yet another is the joy of a superb illustration, which NEVER comes across as well on the monitor as it does on the page. And what happens when the power goes out, or the batteries die? <G> Mark Williams Librarian Colton High School Library 777 W.
