Attention School Library Media Specialists:

A new brochure, "The Principal's Manual for Your School Library Media =
Program," has been mailed to over 84,000 principals responsible for =
elementary and middle school students at both public and private schools =
in the United States. Developed by the American Association of School =
Librarians (AASL) through a grant from the Bound to Stay Bound Books =
Foundation, the brochure is designed to guide principals in assessing and =
planning for their school library media programs.=20

AASL realizes that anything mailed to a principal that has the word =
"library" in the title may be forwarded to you. The gist of the brochure =
is that you, the school library media specialist, and the principal are =
partners and need to work together to achieve an effective program. If =
you are the lucky recipient of the brochure, be sure to read it through =
and meet with your principal to answer some of the guiding questions that =
are included.

This manual is offered as an aid for principals as they prepare with =
school library media staff, district administrators, teachers, students, =
and parents for the next school year. It emphasizes student achievement =
as the bottom line, adequate staffing for school library media centers, =
and planning for technology. References are included that lead principals =
to guiding documents in program evaluation, student achievement, and =
learning standards.

We hope that the brochure helps you to partner with your principal as =
education leaders in your school.
