Some students and I are making a webpage for the author, Bette Greene. When she came to visit recently, I asked her if she could bring some kind of Jewish family heirloom that we might be able to photograph and explain where it came from. She brought the most incredible braclet that her grandmother had given her. Bette said she remembered her grandmother saying she sent money to Israel to help buy land. Each charm has one of the tribes of Israel on it. There is a charm with a menorah on it, with an inscription on the front that says Mizrachi Women's Organization of America On the back it says Mother-In-Israel '60. We have a very small Jewish congregation in Jonesboro, and I showed it to one of the few members who can read Hebrew. He couldn't tell me anything about the women's organization, and I wondered if there was anyone out there who could shed some light on this for us? Thanks for helping us!
