I am responding to the list because I think this is info everyone could use.
Spyware is used to track your movement on the internet and report it back to
the publisher.  Many freeware and shareware programs contain spyware.
Apparently it provides a source of income for programmers without having to
sell their programs.

A program called optout.exe can be used to scan your computer and detect and
remove known spyware.  The program is free and easy to use.  It was written
in machine code so it is compact and does not have to be installed.  It took
me about 30 seconds to download and run the program.  It was written by
Steve Gibson, an Internet privacy advocate.  It is available at:

The program will be free until July 1st.
