SCOPE
The Head Librarian has the primary responsibility for leadership and
implementation of the Academy's media program that serves as an integral
part of the instructional process.  This involves providing support for
student and staff users of all multi-media tools: equipment, software and
dedicated resource rooms.  The Head Librarian will help develop and manage
the Library/Media Center's budget.  The Head Librarian will supervise
library/media center staff. This is a 10 1/2-month position.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
*       Develops overall plan for library/media center.

*       Investigates, plans, and implements applications for new information
technologies to a diverse audience that extend and reinforce the
instructional program of the school.

*       Supervises all library/media center functions, including technical
services, serials control, acquisitions, processing, collections and budget
development

*       Monitors library systems implementation, establishes rules for
system utilization, coordinates user groups, and serves as overall
automation resources manager and coordinator of centralized record keeping
and research operations

*       Initiates interaction with students, staff, administration and the
general public for purposes of integrating, promoting and expanding the
media program.

*       Organizes the facility and resources in such a way that they reflect
the philosophy and goals of the school and its media program.



POSITION IN ORGANIZATION

Reports to:     Director of Information Services

Supervises: Library/Media Center Staff and library volunteers.


WORK SCHEDULE

Days: M-F


Hours: 8am-4:30pm


JOB REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  Thorough knowledge of information
technologies.  Ability to work with students and staff at all levels.
Excellent communication and organizational skills. Knowledge of media
resources available for sixth through twelfth grade students. Understanding
of multimedia technology, multimedia authoring tools and use of the Internet
and Intranet to deliver information

Education: Masters in Library or Information Science from an ALA accredited
institution

Experience:  5 years of experience working in a school library/media center
and at least one year supervisory experience.  Prefer experience in middle
or high school environment.  Has Media Center Certification.
