TECH: Office '97-Word

A student has shown me a problem that I cannot solve.  She makes changes to a
Word document (I saw her make a bulleted list), saves it, and when she opens
it on the same computer the changes are gone.  When she opens this same saved
document on another computer, the changes show.  I am assuming that there is
some setting that has been changed on the computer not showing the changes,
but I cannot figure out where it would be.  I have looked to see if the
document is being saved as another format (it's not); I have checked
"customize" and "options" in the Tools menu, and I have looked through
format.  I can't see anything that looks like it would cause this problem.
The file is being saved to a network drive.  Any ideas?
