Interestingly, when I was a district library coordinator, our
circulation statistics at all levels (in the absence of a reading
incentive program) almost mirrored this exactly. We averaged about 40%
fiction, 60% nonfiction circulation at all levels and over several
years. Once the computerized reading incentive programs came onto the
scene, the circulation mirrors the fiction/nonfiction ratio of the
available tests.
