Greetings LM_NETTERS!!! I hope you will be willing to take 10 minutes to help me out. We are continually asked for some hard data about the use of the Big6 approach to information literacy including: How extensive is use of the Big6? How do people use it? Does it really make a difference? We've decided to try to compile this information and then report back. And, we need to do this quickly (for the next Big6 eNewsletter http://big6.com/enewsletter/index.html <http://big6.com/enewsletter/index.html> ). We will also share the information back to you through this listserv. So, please help us out by providing information for any of the questions listed below. Thanks for your anticipated support! Mike Eisenberg 1. Do you use the Big6 in your school/district/state/province? If so, please provide the name and location and level (elementary, middle, high, higher education, other). 2. If you don't use the Big6, do you use another model or approach to information literacy or information and technology skills instruction? How important is information literacy or information and technology skills instruction in your school? 3. If you use the Big6, why did you select to use this approach? How important is information literacy or information and technology skills instruction in your school? 4. Do you have a school or district web page that links/lists/mentions the Big6, If so, please supply the URL. 5. Do you have a Big6 curriculum? Please identify. If available to share, please provide URL, email, or mail address. 6. Did your school or district host or conduct a Big6 event in the past 2-3 years? This could include workshops, in-service, open houses, presentations, school-wide projects? Or are you planning one for this year? If so, please identify. 7. Approximately how many people attended the event? (from question 6) 8. Approximately how many students do you think have been introduced or taught the Big6 in your setting? 9. The most important aspect is the IMPACT of the Big6 process with your students. What can you tell us about student performance, curriculum, and the Big6? For example, Do your students have better information problem-solving skills? Are they more effective in their school work due to the Big6? If so, how do you know this? Can you tell if teachers are creating better lessons/units based on implementing Big6 skills? Do your students' information problem solving skills improve as they advance through your school each year? In essence, how do you know that your students are more successful because they use the Big6 skills? 10. Additional comments: Again, thank you for your cooperation.
